The Covenant: God's Voluntary Condescension (Eds. Joseph A. Pipa, Jr. & C.N. Willborn)
In the course of history one often witnesses the proverbial "pendulum swing." Several decades ago the Church still seemed to be experiencing a low ebb in the explication of the doctrine of the covenant. Now the church appears to be suffering from an inundation of radical, or "hyper," versions of covenant theology that have resulted in several distortions, and sometimes radical movements, away from classic confessional orthodoxy. In the present volume, the reader is offered both a critique of some of the current tendencies troubling reformed and evangelical churches and a fresh exposition of classic Calvinism on the covenant theme. While only a limited number of topics are addressed, it is the publisher's hope that this collection of papers will serve the Church well in steering her way through some of the rough waters of controversy to the quieter waters of a theology derived from Scripture alone.
