Benjamin Morgan Palmer (1818-1902) was born and raised in South Carolina. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1838 and from Columbia Theological Seminary in 1841, he pastored churches in Savannah, Georgia (1841-1842), Columbia, South Carolina (1843-1855), and New Orleans, Louisiana (1856-1902). He was highly influential in the Southern Presbyterian Church and served as its first Moderator.

Book Description

On this side of the fall of Adam, death is inevitable. Yet inevitability does not make the death of a child or spouse or parent any easier. The apostle Paul joyously affirmed that death was gain for the believer in Jesus. He also recognized that to lose a loved one filled the heart with sorrow upon sorrow. Through these meditations on the deaths of his family members, Benjamin Morgan Palmer, a pastor par excellence, comforts the broken-hearted and helps the reader grieve with a firmer hope in the gospel of Jesus.

Endorsement

“Palmer was one of those larger-than-life 19th century figures. His ministry extended far beyond his Presbyterian ranks. He was honored by secular and sacred men and used by God. This little book is tender, exemplary, pastoral, and some of the finest pastoral theology you’ll find. Pastors, encourage your people to read it.” – Dr. C. N. Willborn
